Private Equity firms have started buying up service industry companies. The most expensive companies are not charging you for premium service, or, industry knowledge. They are charging you to fund the glossy image they built on social media, and, to cover the cost of the new hire driving behind the wheel of their company trucks, complete with shiny new $8,000 truck wraps that attempt to create an unearned sense legitimacy. Someone has to pay for that custom truck wrap - and, it won't be the shareholders.
Junior wants to start a pool service. Does he own a truck? No. But, he can just borrower his dad's. Does Junior know what chems cause toxic gasses to form? Not really. Does he know which forms of chlorine will explode if they come into contact with other forms of chlorine? That's a negative. But, he's the cheapest in town! In fact, if he did the math, he'd realize he's losing money. Sure, his lack of knowledge may structurally damage your pool and cause your kids to break out in rashes. But, what Junior doesn't know is actually the reason for the low monthly price!
We are pool pros and water chemistry experts who do our jobs with a pleasant disposition; that's why our clients pay us. We show up with knowledge and professionalism; Private Equity shows up with a tech who has zero knowledge, three weeks experience, but he's driving a company truck with a flashy $8,000 custom wrap. Junior, the aspiring "splash and dasher," if he shows up at all, shows up in his daddy's truck, and, with (somehow) even less knowledge than the new guy that the Private Equity backed company sent over.
Not All Pool Services Are created Equal
The chemicals required to keep your pool safe to use and pristine to look at are no joke. The residue alone from one type of chlorine coming into contact with another form of dry chlorine will result in a violent chemical reaction. Pouring acid and liquid chlorine into the same spot in the pool creates "chlorine gas," (yes... as in the chlorine gas used as a chemical weapon since WWI)! A lot of one-man pool service companies don't know much more about the dangers related to pool chemicals than the average home owner. You may have heard of "Splash and Dash," pool services. The name does not indicate the seriousness of the risk associated with their practices. These "pool services," offer very low rates, which they accomplish by purchasing and using only the cheapest chemicals, which will can do far worse than stain your hair green. The safety of the water and the structural integrity of your pool are on the line.
Our pool technicians are professionally trained, knowledgable of chemical safety, and offer weekly reports and photos to keep you advised of the condition of your pool. In addition, we advise you on routine and emergency maintenance needs to prevent small issues from becoming big headaches.
